IMPACT OF UPPER GI ENDOSCOPY ON TREATMENT DECISIONS IN GALLSTONE PATIENTS WITH DYSPEPSIA

Aswin Mehta , Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, KIMS, Hubli, India

Abstract

Background: Gallstones are a common cause of abdominal pain, often presenting with dyspepsia. Upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is used to visualize the upper digestive tract. This study investigates the impact of upper GI endoscopy on treatment decisions in patients with gallstones and dyspepsia.

Methods: ( Briefly describe the methods used in your research, such as retrospective analysis, number of patients, etc.)

Results: ( Briefly mention the key findings, such as percentage of patients with alternative diagnoses or changes in treatment plan due to endoscopy.)

Conclusions: Upper GI endoscopy may identify alternative causes of dyspepsia in a significant portion of patients with gallstones. This can influence treatment decisions and potentially avoid unnecessary cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal).
