ASSESSING THE EFFICACY OF NEO-ADJUVANT CHEMOTHERAPY IN IMPROVING TREATMENT OUTCOMES FOR LOCALLY ADVANCED GASTRIC CANCER

Abstract

Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is increasingly employed in the treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) to enhance surgical outcomes and improve survival rates. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of NAC in improving treatment outcomes for patients with LAGC. A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of patients diagnosed with LAGC who received NAC followed by surgical resection. Treatment outcomes were measured in terms of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and pathological response. Our findings indicate a significant improvement in both OS and DFS among patients who received NAC compared to those who underwent surgery alone. Furthermore, a notable proportion of patients achieved a complete pathological response, correlating with improved long-term outcomes. These results underscore the potential of NAC as a vital component of the multidisciplinary treatment approach for LAGC, warranting further investigation in larger, prospective clinical trials.
