EXAMINING VOLUNTARY ASSISTED DYING REGULATIONS: COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVES AND IMPLICATIONS
Abstract
The regulation of voluntary assisted dying (VAD) poses complex ethical, legal, and social challenges for policymakers and societies worldwide. This paper provides a comparative analysis of VAD regulation in Australia and the Netherlands, drawing insights from their respective legislative frameworks, implementation processes, and cultural contexts. By examining key similarities and differences, as well as lessons learned from the Dutch experience, this study offers valuable perspectives on navigating the delicate balance between autonomy, compassion, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals in end-of-life care decisions.
